Daggers are traditionally European in origin, though daggers were also used by the Persians and many other peoples. They are a type of knife with a sharp point at one end and a circular cross guard, also known as a hilt or tang, at the other. This crossguard is typically stamped from one piece of metal while the blade is folded over it to create its double-edged shape.  The word dagger comes from the old French "dague," meaning "dart." There is no true defining difference between daggers and knives of any kind; some people root for daggers because they believe they are superior in design or function to knives.
